Past Q & A with MJ

Q:  What is a common mistake brides make?

A: Sometimes, brides think they can do it all. And they think they have to do it all. As a bride, you don’t. Give some tasks to your groom.  Ask grandma or an aunt to take charge of the cookie table. If you have a computer-savvy bridesmaid or friend, ask them to do whatever computer tasks you need accomplish.  People like to help so this is the time to ask.

Q: My band’s contract says they get two breaks during my reception. Is that typical?

A: Yes, it is common.  Although some bands will only take one break to eat dinner during a wedding reception.  In some contracts, bands state they get two breaks.  Also, most contracts will state how long the breaks will be.  If the contract doesn’t give a designated amount of time for the break, ask.  You will want to know if the break is 20, 30,or 40 minutes so you can plan your reception details accordingly.

Know your personality and the way your work. By knowing the way you work, it will help you plan your wedding day more efficiently, making the process less stressful. So do you get excited, jump into action, then lose your interest as time goes on? If so, tackle the most time-consuming tasks or ones with a tight deadline in the beginning of the planning process and work your way to the easier tasks. For brides who are perfectionists and never seem to finish a job, ask your groom to give you a deadline or a stopping point to move that task out of your hands. Now, if too many decisions overwhelm you, ask mom or another trusted person to nar row down your options. With only three or four choices, it will be easier to handle.
