How can I personalize my wedding?

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

You can easily personalize your wedding by incorporating favorite family traditions.  One couple’s buffet including favorite dishes that reminded them of going to their grandparents house for dinner.  Family and friends loved the retro meal and it was a way to remember those that were with them in spirit.

This Week’s Q & A With MJ

Q: Should I feed my vendors?

A:  This is a two-part answer. Absolutely and no. The vendors, such as a florist and linen company, will be there prior to the start of your ceremony and/or reception so you do not have to feed these vendors. However, vendors, such as your photographers are with you from the time you start dressing until the end of the evening. That’s a long time to go without something in their stomachs.  So absolutely, they should be feed.  Other vendors to feed include your videographer, DJ or band members, wedding planner and anyone else that you might hire for the entire day/evening.

Past Q & A with MJ

Q:  What is a common mistake brides make?

A: Sometimes, brides think they can do it all. And they think they have to do it all. As a bride, you don’t. Give some tasks to your groom.  Ask grandma or an aunt to take charge of the cookie table. If you have a computer-savvy bridesmaid or friend, ask them to do whatever computer tasks you need accomplish.  People like to help so this is the time to ask.

Q: My band’s contract says they get two breaks during my reception. Is that typical?

A: Yes, it is common.  Although some bands will only take one break to eat dinner during a wedding reception.  In some contracts, bands state they get two breaks.  Also, most contracts will state how long the breaks will be.  If the contract doesn’t give a designated amount of time for the break, ask.  You will want to know if the break is 20, 30,or 40 minutes so you can plan your reception details accordingly.
